Let’s start the journey…
Flight:
- Step 1: Book a flight to Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan, or Urumqi, a major city in Xinjiang, China.
- Step 2: From Islamabad, Pakistan:
- Book a domestic flight to Skardu Airport.
- Hire a local jeep or van to travel to Askole village, the last village accessible by road.
- Trek from Askole village to K2 base camp, which usually takes around 7-9 days.
- Step 2: From Urumqi, China:
- Book a domestic flight to Kashgar or Hotan.
- Arrange transportation to the Xinjiang-Pakistan border at the Khunjerab Pass.
- Cross the border into Pakistan and continue the journey by road to Skardu and then to Askole village.
- Trek from Askole village to K2 base camp.
Train:
- Step 1: If starting from within Pakistan, take a train to Rawalpindi or Lahore.
- Step 2: From Rawalpindi or Lahore:
- Follow the steps mentioned in the “Via Flight” section to reach Islamabad and proceed as described.
- Step 3: If starting from within China, take a train to Kashgar or Hotan.
- Step 4: From Kashgar or Hotan:
- Follow the steps mentioned in the “Via Flight” section to reach Urumqi and proceed as described.
Bus:
- Step 1: Depending on your starting location, find a bus service to Skardu in Pakistan or Kashgar in China.
- Step 2: From Skardu or Kashgar:
- Arrange transportation to Askole village and proceed as described in the “Via Flight” section.
Auto Rickshaw:
- Note: Auto-rickshaws are not feasible for this journey due to the long distances and rough terrain involved.
Bike/Scooter:
- Note: Bikes or scooters are not suitable for this journey due to the rugged terrain and lack of proper roads in the mountainous regions leading to K2.
